Breast Reduction

Breast reduction, or reduction mammaplasty, removes excess glandular tissue, fat and skin to bring the breasts down to a volume in proportion with your frame. The areola and nipple are repositioned during the same operation, so the procedure also corrects the sagging that almost always comes with breast hypertrophy. At Clinic Nobel Istanbul, the technique is chosen in consultation according to the volume to be removed, the quality of your skin and your own plans, including any plans for pregnancy or breastfeeding.

How the Procedure Is Performed

  1. Consultation and assessment

Consultation with clinical examination, measurements and photographs

  2. Markings drawn standing, before anaesthesia

The surgeon draws the markings with you standing, before anesthesia, because lying down changes the shape of the breast.

  3. Vertical technique

The vertical technique — a scar around the areola extended down to the fold — suits moderate reductions.

  4. Inverted-T technique

The inverted-T, or anchor, technique adds a horizontal scar hidden in the inframammary fold and remains the reference for significant hypertrophy.

  5. Reshaping and repositioning the areola

In both cases the excess gland is removed, the remaining tissue is reshaped and secured higher on the chest, then the areola is repositioned on its vascular and nerve pedicle, which preserves the blood supply and, in the great majority of cases, sensation.

  6. Combined liposuction, if needed

Liposuction of the axillary tail can be combined with it to refine the line of the upper chest.

Expected Results

The sense of relief is often immediate: the weight carried by the shoulders and the back is gone as soon as you wake up. The shape settles more slowly — allow 3 to 6 months for the swelling to resolve and the tissues to find their position. The scars are red for the first few months, then fade over 12 to 18 months; their final appearance depends on the quality of your skin and on how closely the scar care is followed. The result lasts, subject to weight changes, a later pregnancy and natural aging.
