Arm and Thigh Lift

An arm lift, or brachioplasty, and a thigh lift, or thighplasty, remove the skin that has stayed stretched once the volume beneath it has gone: after major weight loss, after bariatric surgery, or simply with age. Both areas are treated under the same anesthetic, with liposuction to refine the contour before the skin is tightened. This is the operation that answers the arm that hangs loose and the chafing of the thighs, which neither exercise nor non-surgical techniques correct once elasticity has been lost.

Goals and Benefits

  • Remove the excess skin from the arms and from the inner thighs
  • Redraw the contour of the limb with liposuction performed at the same time
  • Put an end to thigh chafing and to discomfort when walking
  • Wear short sleeves again without discomfort
  • Treat both areas under a single anesthetic and in a single stay

Indications

  • Excess arm skin after major weight loss
  • Laxity of the inner thighs with chafing
  • Stretched skin that has lost its elasticity, on which non-surgical techniques no longer have any hold
  • After bariatric surgery, with weight stable for at least six months
  • Age-related laxity, without prior weight loss

Why choose our clinic for this procedure?

  • Incision length matched to the actual excess, never standardized
  • Deep tissues anchored to the superficial fascia, so that the scar does not migrate
  • Liposuction performed during the same operation and included in the package
  • JCI (Joint Commission International) certified operating room
  • Two nights under supervision at the clinic before the transfer to the hotel

Preoperative Preparation

  • Consultation with assessment of skin elasticity and measurement of the excess
  • Stable weight for six months, a condition of the result
  • Complete blood work-up and anesthesia consultation
  • Smoking must be stopped one month before the procedure
  • Compression sleeves and garments prepared in your size before you travel

How the Procedure Is Performed

  1. Consultation and assessment

Consultation with assessment of skin elasticity and measurement of the excess

  2. Preliminary liposuction

Liposuction is performed first, on the inner aspect of the arms and the thighs: it removes residual fat and makes it easier to lift the skin.

  3. Arm incision

On the arm, the incision follows the inner surface from the armpit toward the elbow, in a natural groove where the scar stays discreet with the arm at your side; its length is matched to the excess skin, and a short brachioplasty limited to the armpit is sometimes enough.

  4. Thigh incision

On the thigh, the incision is most often horizontal, hidden in the groin crease, and extends vertically toward the knee when the excess reaches lower down.

  5. Resection, deep anchoring and closure

The surgeon removes the spindle of skin, anchors the deep tissues to the superficial fascia so the scar does not travel downwards, then closes in several layers.

Indicative timelines: every recovery is specific to the patient and follows the surgeon's instructions.

Expected Results

The contour is clear as soon as the dressing comes off, but the swelling in the limbs takes several weeks to resolve, longer in the thighs than in the arms, because lymphatic drainage is slower there. The final shape can be judged at around six months. These operations leave long scars: that is the trade-off, and we state it plainly. They fade over 12 to 18 months without ever disappearing, and they buy a contour that stretched skin could no longer hold. That trade-off is discussed in consultation, before the operation.
